Are you bundling up for winter? A scarf might be one of your go-to items to brave that chilly climate. However, many people own a scarf but don’t know how to wear it properly. When worn properly, a scarf can keep you very warm. They aren’t just a fashion statement.

Read on to learn more about the warmest ways to wear a scarf.

The Wrap

The Wrap is the easiest and most intuitive way to tie a scarf.

This is how you tie the Wrap:

  1. Drape the scarf over your neck and leave both ends hanging at the same length.
  2. Then, take one side and wrap it gently around your neck.
  3. Afterwards, adjust the scarf to make both ends even.

The Pretzel Knot

The pretzel knot is one of the warmest ways to wear a scarf on this list. It is a bit more complex than the Wrap, but it will keep you warmer for longer.

We suggest wearing the Pretzel Knot during windy days. The knot is very secure, and it will keep your scarf close to your body.

Here are the steps to tie the Pretzel Knot:

  1. Fold your scarf in half.
  2. Using one hand, fold one side of the scarf into a loop.
  3. Drape the scarf around your neck and tuck the other side of the scarf into the loop.
  4. Pull the other end of the scarf through the loop.
  5. Adjust as needed. Depending on the length and fluffiness of the scarf, you can go through the loop a couple more times to make sure the scarf is safe on your neck. You can even tie the ends of the scarf together once you’ve put them both through the loop.

The Loop

The Loop is a lot like the Pretzel Knot but simpler and less tight. You can adjust it more easily after tying it, and it also allows more wind to touch your throat.

This is the best way to wear a scarf if you’re going to a public event with lots of people, so you can easily adjust your scarf as needed in case things get too hot.

Here’s how you tie a Loop:

  1. Fold the scarf in half.
  2. Fold one end of the scarf into a loop.
  3. Pull tight until the scarf fits snugly around your neck.

The Mask

The Mask is perfect for snowy days. It will protect your face from the elements, particularly if there is a risk of frostbite. Paired with sunglasses, a hat, and a heavy-duty winter coat, the Mask will enable you to take on any winter day.

The Mask is best suited for scarfs that are approximately 80 inches or longer.

Here’s how you tie the Mask:

  1. Put the scarf on your neck and leave the sides dangling evenly down your body.
  2. Take one end and pull until your right side is noticeably longer than your left.
  3. Wrap the long end around the front of your face and neck and behind your neck twice.
  4. Now that both ends are around the same length tie the long end with the short end.
  5. Feel free to fluff up your scarf.
